In terms of Capcom’s deep, deep well of beloved characters, Strider doesn’t usually get a lot of love. It was a shock that he made the roster in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but it looks like Capcom is willing to give the mystical ninja another shot. During Capcom’s Comic-Con panel, after trotting out some of their existing properties, the studio unveiled the new Strider, simply called “Strider”. The game appears to follow a 2.5D, “Metroidvania” type of mechanic, which works great with Strider’s arsenal, complete with a Metroid-esque map system, too.

“[Strider will have] an ultra-responsive control system, with incredibly satisfying combat options in every traversal context—standing, running, wall climbing, hanging, aerial and more, [and with] the massive interconnected world of Kazakh City which players can explore in any direction they choose. The traditional level structure has been replaced with a retraceable world and a deep ability upgrade system which enables Hiryu to build more power and abilities to penetrate ever deeper into the dystopian adventure.”

However, development of the game is being handled by Double Helix, who are most notably working on the Killer Instinct reboot at the moment. Despite their questionable reputation, the original Strider developers are overseeing the project, as well. Hopefully this bides well for Strider and company. The game is set to release early next year on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Wii U is a possibility, but as of now is not confirmed. At least they have all their bases covered.

EDIT: And now here’s the trailer:

    “Traverse a boundless world!”

Really? How did you manage that, Capcom? How did you manage to create a world without boundaries in which to play this game?

Or is it more likely you needed a misleading BS phrase to tack onto your preview to fill up those 3 seconds?
