The Daily Five: Great Video Game Romances
Valentine’s Day is only a few days away, and that means love is in the air! While most people get their romance fix from films about notebooks, dancing in a less-than-clean manner, or poltergeist pottery, gaming has also had its share of loving relationships. While not all ended in “happily ever after”, and a few even ended tragically, many of the relationships displayed in our favorite interactive hobby are just as passionate and emotional as any found on the silver screen.
Today, we are listing five of our favorite video game romances. If we missed one of your favorite gaming pairings, please let us know in the comments.
Mario & Peach – Super Mario Bros. et. al
How can we talk about video game romances and not mention the greatest of them all? Though a plumber and a princess don’t seem to have much in common, the first couple of the Mushroom Kingdom has made it work since 1985. No matter how many times Bowser kidnaps Peach, Mario always rescues her without complaining. He instantly leaps into the fray in order to save his beloved. The only payment he needs? A kiss on the cheek and a slice of cake. That’s love right there.
Maybe Mario and Peach are able to keep the romance alive because they are always doing stuff together. During downtime (and when Peach isn’t kidnapped), this Super couple is spending time on the baseball field, the tennis court, the golf course, or the race track. Also, Mario has never been one to keep Peach from spending quality time with her friends, even going so far as to set up his brother Luigi with Peach’s pal Daisy.
Plus, can we just admit that Peach always offering Mario “cake” is a euphemism at this point?
