February 11, 2014 | By | No Comments

Sequels are sometimes both unnecessary and unwanted. However, there are the rare occasions where we, as gamers, are clamoring for more and want to see where the story goes or what’s next for a franchise. Not all sequels are continuations — some are completely unrelated, but are the next step for a storied franchise like Final Fantasy. To make our list today, you must be a great game, have the number 2 in your name in some form, and be better than the original. We’ve created a respectable list and think they could be the top five sequels ever. We’re sure you’ll be able to think of others though.

Check out our Top 5 greatest video game sequels and let us know which we missed.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is an absolute lock for a list like this. It built upon the original in every conceivable way while also introducing more great characters and tighter gameplay. It’s not exactly hard to see why it swept up so many Game of the Year awards that year either. The game also introduced us to The Naughty Dog Engine 2.0 which allowed for real-time moving environments, more realistic textures, and improved animations.

It’s amazing how much more advanced the Uncharted sequel was than the original and we can’t wait to see the advancements Naughty Dog makes in Uncharted 4 on an entirely new generation of consoles. It’s sure to have a similar impact from title-to-title which is even more difficult considering how strong the third installment was.
