Nintendo recently announced a new game set in the Link to the Past world for the 3DS, and it’s bringing some interesting changes along with it. The graphics are polygonal rather than sprite-based, and there’s a strange “turn Link into a drawing” mechanic that will help you traverse environments.
Still, some core elements simply can’t miss the cut. In a recent interview with CNET, producer Eiji Aounuma confirmed that separate light and dark versions of Hyrule will be making a return to the still-unnamed sequel.
As for the drawing mechanic, Aounoma says that the inspiration came from the N64′s Ocarina of Time, in which Phantom Ganon is able to enter six identical paintings during a boss fight. “What if Link had the same power?” Aounuma posited.
The Link to the Past sequel will hit the 3DS this holiday.
