‘Monetization’ Coming to Bungie’s Destiny

Bungie’s upcoming Destiny, which you can currently preorder without having seen so much as 2 minutes of continuous gameplay, will feature some form of nickel-and-diming beyond the game’s initial purchase price.

The LinkedIn profile for Ryan Wener, Senior Director of Product Management at Activision, currently lists one of his responsibilities as “Leading a cross-functional (and cross-company) team through planning across a wide variety of business and marketing issues, including: marketing strategy, product strategy, monetization modeling, partnership & business development, and more.” Swell!

It’s unclear as to what this means at the moment, but I can’t remember a time when I’ve thought about buying a $60 game and wondered how I could give the publisher even more money for no real reason.
