The Daily Five: PS3 Games You Need to Play Before PS4

July 15, 2013 | By | 6 Comments

It’s no secret that PlayStation 4 won’t be backwards compatible with PlayStation 3. Sure, they plan to eventually release the ability to stream those games online, but chances are, not 100% of the library will be available. Considering a lot of gamers will sell off their PS3s in order to purchase the next console in line, that means you might not be able to enjoy PS3 games going forward — especially if you can’t stream online titles in the future.

We’ve compiled a list of must play PS3 games before the arrival of PS4. If you missed out on any of these, there’s still time to correct that.

The Last of Us

The Last of Us is arguably going to be the last great title released for PlayStation 3 prior to the release of Sony’s next giant. The developers and creative minds at Naughty Dog are responsible for two titles on this list and that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone as their mastery of the PS3 is unrivaled. They’ve won many accolade for the hard work they’ve put forth and it’ll be a shock to no one if The Last of Us wins Game of the Year in 2013 hands down. Honestly, it’s going to be very difficult to compete with this juggernaut.

Valkyria Chronicles

It’s hard to remember a franchise like Valkyria Chronicles. The original was released exclusive on PlayStation 3 by SEGA and it was followed up by a couple of sequels on PlayStation Portable. Sadly, only the second was released in North America and while a dedicated fanbase is hard at work creating translations for VC3, it’s unlikely to ever be released stateside. Every fan hopes that SEGA will return to PlayStation 4 with a brand new entry into this great series, but it’s highly unlikely.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted is the franchise that helped Naughty Dog make its mark on this generation of consoles. In fact, the original Uncharted can be considered the first true console seller for Sony. However, Naughty Dog upped themselves with the sequel and were met by critics and gamers alike with Game of the Year accolades all around. Much like Lara Croft was to the original PlayStation, Drake will forever be synonymous with PlayStation 3. Unfortunately for exclusive fans to other consoles, Drake will never be making the switch to play both sides of the fence.
