The Last Guardian has been in development for what feels like ages, and Sony Computer Entertainment America CEO Jack Tretton told GameTrailers in an interview this morning that it’s not coming anytime soon. The story was picked up by Polygon.
“I think the cool thing about our worldwide development studios is we have so many projects out there from so many great teams,” Tretton said. “Projects never ultimately go away, so The Last Guardian has certainly not gone away, but it’s on hiatus right now.”
The Last Guardian was originally announced at the Tokyo Game Show in 2009 and set to release in 2011. Creative director Fumito Ueda has since left Sony’s employment, but is still contracted to finish the game on a freelance basis. Ueda in February said that people should “keep an eye” out for a release date.
I guess not.
