As part of today’s wave of announcements and statements out of Ubisoft, the company’s CEO Yves Guillemot said in a statement that their upcoming open-world game Watch Dogs is on pace to become one of the most successful new IPs in gaming history.
“‘Watch Dogs’ pre-orders are at record levels and it is perfectly positioned to become the industry’s most successful new IP in history,” Guillemot said. While specific figures were not shared, Ubisoft had previously reported that they expected the game to sell around 6 million units, so it could be a hint that the game is trending much higher.
The statement further corroborates a press release from Ubisoft which claimed that Watch Dogs is the most pre-ordered new IP in company history andt he most pre-ordered new IP in the entire video game business this year, but again, no specific figures were shared.
Activision has also contended that their upcoming shooter, Bungie’s Destiny, will become the best-selling new IP in video game history, but only time will tell. Watch Dogs will be launching in just a few weeks time on May 27th while Destiny arrives on September 9th.
